- The language of instruction in the first four semesters (basic studies) is English. During these first four semesters you can take voluntary German classes. After the basic studies, you need to have acquired German language skills at level B2. The courses in the main studies from the sixth semester onwards will be held in German.

- We are aware that students from some countries face enormous challenges in getting a German student visa.
For this reason, we offer international students online lectures with cameras in the classroom and an online learning platform throughout the whole first semester.
However, the study programme in general requires in-person attendance, and exams at the end of the semester require in-person attendance.

- • Apply via uni-assist (https://my.uni-assist.de/): For applicants with a university entrance qualification from outside of Germany. uni-assist has to verify your eligibility to study in Germany and to convert your grades to the German grade system. You will have to submit all required documents to uni-assist online. The process may take up to six weeks.
• PRIMUSS (https://www3.primuss.de/cgi-bin/bew_anmeldung_v3/index.pl) – THI application portal: Apply from 15 November until 15 January for the following summer semester and from 2 May until 31 August for the following winter semester 2026/27 (only online). In case of admission, you may be asked to send all required documents by mail later on.

- THI charges fees of currently 500 EUR per semester for students from third countries (citizenship outside the EU and European Economic Area).
The fees are planned to increase to 800 EUR per semester (Bachelor's programmes) from summer semester 2026 onwards. When more details are available, you will find further information on our homepage.
THI students who started their studies earlier are not affected by this reform.

- Civil engineers have visions of achieving sustainable infrastructure in a cost-effective, environmentally and socially responsible manner. They should also live up to their professional title of "civil engineering". This means taking responsibility for civil society by solving complex issues with sustainable methods – building, repairing or rehabilitating, e.g. tunnels, roads, bridges and much more. Why sustainable methods? Because the building sector contributes enormously to CO2 emissions – rethinking it is therefore a necessity. With sustainable and alternative building materials, effective resource management, energy-efficient building design, digital methods and new structural methods, there is enormous potential to reduce our ecological footprint.
Civil engineers are those who have mastered the mathematical, scientific and computational tools to solve problems associated with the development and maintenance of a civil society.
