Description/content: The PhD programme combines a supervised experimental research project with a three-year graduate curriculum (structured doctoral training). Supervision includes the scientific expertise and support of a professor/senior lecturer as well as a work place and equipment to carry out the research. Often, funding is also included. As part of the research project, a clearly defined topic is to be addressed using appropriate methods, aiming to achieve a realistic chance of scientific progress and to publish the results in a research paper (doctoral thesis).
