- The International Graduate School for Dynamics in Logistics (IGS) at the University of Bremen offers the opportunity to pursue a doctorate in an efficiently-structured doctoral training programme. Excellent early-stage researchers from all over the world are enabled to finish their third-cycle education at a logistic location of long-standing tradition.
The IGS is embedded in the Bremen Research Cluster for Dynamics in Logistics (LogDynamics) (http://www.logdynamics.de (http://www.logdynamics.de)).
LogDynamics is a cooperative network of research groups from five different departments of the University of Bremen: Production Engineering, Business Studies / Economics, Mathematics / Computer Science, Physics / Electrical Engineering, and Law. Associated partners are the BIBA – Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik GmbH, the Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics (ISL), and the Constructor University Bremen gGmbH. The fields of research range from fundamental and applied research to transferring research results into practice. LogDynamics collaborates closely with enterprises, especially in the logistics and production industry.
The IGS aims to identify, describe, and model the intrinsic dynamics of present logistic processes and networks. By exploiting new technologies, business models and strategies, new dynamic planning and control processes will be researched and developed. The objective of the IGS is to foster excellence in education and research by providing an optimal environment. The IGS meets the challenge of globalisation through practice-oriented research within a scope of multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural cooperation.
The research revolves around four topic areas:
• Business models, decision processes and economic analyses
• Holistic interdisciplinary methods for modelling, analysis and simulation
• Adaptive and dynamic control methods
• Synchronisation of material, information, decision and financial flows
The IGS improves the career perspectives of early-stage researchers by offering structured doctoral training as well as by providing complementary skills and introducing researchers to industry and the international scientific community. There are numerous opportunities for doctoral candidates to participate in international conferences. Another example of an incentive is the option of actively contributing to the organisation of the biannual International Conference on Dynamics in Logistics (LDIC), a conference series set up by LogDynamics.
