- Description/content
- The field of Biomedical Engineering (BME) is dedicated to advancing human health through technological innovation. Its scope includes the research and development of technology-oriented methods, systems, and techniques for early detection, diagnosis, therapy, and rehabilitation. BME is a multidisciplinary field at the intersection of medicine and technology. Recent studies have identified it as one of the top ten technologies set to shape the 21st century. The global market for medical technology products and systems represents one of the most attractive growth opportunities. Germany is a global leader in the medical technology industry, and BME graduates enjoy excellent medium- to long-term career prospects.
The aim of this international degree programme is to train graduates with a sound basis in engineering science, outstanding methodological competence, a strong understanding of current biomedical issues, and practical knowledge in biomedical engineering. It seeks to promote a strong research orientation—preparing graduates for careers in the biomedical engineering industry, clinics, and research institutions—as well as the ability to work independently in scientific settings, thereby also preparing them for the possibility of doctoral studies.
The main research areas covered by this programme include:
• Measurement and sensor technology
• Stimulation technology
• Modelling and data processing
• Medical imaging and radiological technology
• Medical image processing
• Technologies for ophthalmologic diagnostics
